Sunday: Sunday Roast
Among the enormous variety of meals, there was one clear favourite: Sunday roast! Whether it was roast pork with crackling, roast chicken with gravy or roast lamb with mint sauce, everyone has fond memories of tucking into a delicious roast with their family. It’s a dish that will endure through the ages, especially with those trimmings, roasted potatoes, brussel sprouts and Yorkshire puddings. There were just as many variations on this classic too, like a unique curried roast! We’ve developed a variation ourselves, try our fresh take on a Sunday roast with our slow-cooked korma lamb shoulder!
Monday: Spaghetti Bolognese
A perennial favourite, there’s no denying the enduring comfort of a bowl of spaghetti bolognese! A family favourite for many, especially when topped with a generous sprinkle of parmesan and served with a side of garlic bread! Some modern recipes are made without meat and instead are filled with delicious and nutritious veggies and legumes, making this the perfect choice for a Meatfree Monday!

Tuesday: Pie
Who can say no to a delicious pie? On brisk winter evenings, a hot pie is the ultimate comfort food! We saw votes for steak and kidney pies, as well as meat and vegetable pies, but the standout favourite was shepherd’s pie. Try making one with leftover lamb or beef from Sunday’s roast! Wednesday: Curry
Whether it’s a beef rendang, a lamb korma or a mild butter chicken, curry night will always be a family favourite! There’s no going past a classic Indian or Sri Lankan curry served up with fluffy basmati rice and tasty garlic naan. Add onion pakora to start and you’ve got the makings of the perfect dinner! Thursday: Rissoles
The humble rissole holds a lot of fond memories for many Aussies! It was and still is a dinnertime staple in many Australian homes, each of which will have their own family recipe. All started with minced beef, chicken or lamb with other ingredients like breadcrumbs, onion, finely chopped herbs, vegetables and sometimes sauces added to the mix. They rose to popularity during wartime but over the last 100 years rissole recipes have evolved with families adding their own flair with secret ingredients like beer, Vegemite, peanut butter or even cornflakes! Typically served with peas, carrots, mashed potatoes and gravy, rissoles are one of Australia’s favourites.
Friday: Meatloaf
Like the humble rissole but a little more international, meatloaf is another family favourite! Minced meat, spices, seasonings and a number of other optional inclusions are shaped into a loaf and baked. The cooked loaf can be sliced like bread to make individual portions and leftovers can be turned into delicious sandwiches! For a vegetarian option, try making a nutritious nut loaf! Rich and savoury, a vegetarian nut loaf is often made with nuts, grains, vegetables, broth, butter and cheese.
Saturday: Lasagna
Like rissoles and bolognese, everyone has their own recipe and no one’s is better than mum’s! Fresh pasta or dried sheets, bechamel or ricotta, meat or veg, it doesn’t matter which way you go, there’s no denying the appeal of a tasty lasagna, especially when it’s topped with freshly grated parmesan!
Honourable mentions go to the satisfying beef goulash, classic fish and chips and golden syrup dumplings for dessert! Explore more flavoursome dinner ideas with our delicious curry and stir-fry recipes.
